The NCAA runs College Football in the US, for many the purest form of the game.
The X-League is a semi-professional American football league in Japan. It was founded in 1971 as the Japan American Football League. It changed its name to the X-league in 1997. There are four division (X1, X2, X3, and X4) between which there is promotion and relegation. Teams in the four-tier league are split into east, west, and central divisions. There are two types of teams, one being a company-team which only employees of that particular sponsoring company may participate as a player, and the other classified as a club-team for which anyone can tryout. The Japanese game is shorter, with quarters lasting 12 minutes instead of the standard 15 with some exceptions. Game rules are based on those of the NCAA college division in America. The regular season consists of three stages, namely first stage, second stage and final stage. And the Japan X Bowl is played by winners of the final stage. There is a spring tournament as well called the Pearl Bowl which is used by teams to ready themselves and evaluate new players before the fall season.
As mentioned above, it is a semi-pro league and therefore players are not allowed to be compensated for their playing in terms of salary.
The Japan national American football team that has won the first and second editions of the American Football World Cup and was runner-up finishing second to the American team in last years third installment of the tournament, was made-up almost entirely of players from this league.

The United Football League (UFL) is an independent professional American football league that began play in October 2009. The league's premiere season consisted of four teams and was played in October and November 2009, culminating in the championship game on November 27 in Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, site of the league's first game on October 8. The league has confirmed a second season, and additional franchises are possible for 2010. The league's defending champions are the Las Vegas Locomotives, who defeated the Florida Tuskers, 20-17, in overtime in the November 27 title game.

The GFL is partitioned into north and south conferences, each with six teams. In each conference, every team plays against every other team of the own conference, both at home and away. Each team also plays home and away interconference games against the team from the opposing conference that finished the last season on the same rank, so that the regular season covers 12 games. After the end of the regular season, four teams from both conferences enter the playoffs, to determine the German championship. The winner of a conference plays against the 4th place team of the other group, second against third of the other conference. The final is called the German Bowl. The lowest ranked team of each conference plays against the winner of the second division, and may be relegated if they lose.
